Wiper Drills

The ice pictured above is divided into three zones with each having a seperate drill. As a coach you may choose to run each of these drills seperately to allow for more skill correction and feedback.

Drill Name: (centre ice) "The Winshield Wiper"

This drill is great for developing good heel toe feel with the stick while stickhandling. It also challenges players to time stickhandling movements away from checking pressure.

Description: Two players are stationary each facing one another. X is positioned lying down on his belly with his stick in front of himself. O is position just inside the reach of the lying down player. X swings his stick on the ice back and forth trying to sweep away the puck. X stick handles the puck in and out of the range of the "wiper".

Drill Name: (defensive end) "Three man Wiper"

Description" A variation to the above two players position themselves as above with wiper man on ice. These two players stickhandle and or pass back and forth avoiding being checked by the wiper. If the wiper man sweeps away puck or blocks pass he replaces one player. As above all three players are staionary.

Drill Name: (offensive end) "Pepper pass" Description: Three players face one another standing in a triangle. The point man (of the triangle) must return passes with one touch directly back to passing player as quickly as he can. The two passing players(base of triangle)both have puck and immediately pass to the point player upon hisreturn pass to other player.

Variation: add one more puck.

Cues: With all three drills encourage fun with skill work. Passes on the tape, quick hands, stick on the ice, ready position, quickness.
